Train Travel
in the UK

Southeastern 140mph Javelin Train

Getting There From London:

This part of my site is about Train Travel in the UK with rail passenger guide links which feature train trip schedule times, rail passes and ticket fares, reservations, railway route maps and train stations which will include the Mainline Stations
in central London.

Train travel is the very best and convenient way to visit some of the English picturesque towns and villages. Trains from London, as a rule, run very frequently and are quite reliable. For your convenience, I have listed the major Mainline Stations in London on this page and I've included just some of their destinations in the UK.

As I said, rail travel in Britain and rail services are fairly efficient and serve most of the major towns and cities. London is a hub for most train lines and connect to the major cities and towns, but you may have to change trains if your destination is a bit off the beaten track.

To travel beyond London by train you must first know which train station and line to use to start your journey.

As I mentioned earlier, to help you find the right Mainline Station for your trip, I have located the London Public Transport mainline stations in central London and their destinations from the capital. The fares and timetables listed on each site link will help you plan before you leave using the London Transit system.

For your information, Eurostar are adding up to a million extra seats from 23 February to the end of the year from London to Paris.

The major Mainline Stations in London are:

  • Network Rail Map
This is the National Rail Network Diagram 2009. The map shows Principal routes, Regional routes, Local routes and Limited service.

  • National Rail Timetable
There's a pocket timetable tool offered from National Rail that gives you the flexibility to create a timetable that is tailored to your own individual journey.

  • Victoria Station
Gatwick Airport, Brighton, Eastbourne, Bognor Regis and Chichester.

  • Paddington Station
Reading, Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Newport, Swansea, Fishguard and Ferry to Ireland, Taunton, Exeter, Torquay, Plymouth, Penzance.
