Mrs. Barbara Jean Roop
by Barbara Jean Roop
(King, North Carolina 27021)
My story is a true one, but I am afraid I wasn't able at the time to take any photos. I visited the town where William Shakespeare was born and died at Stratford upon Avon, and I must admit I was in complete awe of it.
But I and my husband and daughter, were enroute to The White Cliffs of Dover to board a ferry to France. My husband was with the United States Air Force, and he was being transferred to a Canadian Base in Zwiebrucken, Germany, that was being "turned over" to the American military. The year was 1967.
I remember that when I was in high school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, I developed a pure love for all of Shakespeare"s works. I still feel that deeply about them today. Shakespeare's works are totally genious, and remarkable! I wish that I could have had the time when I was fortunate enough to visit there, to stay longer, and "walk in the foot steps" this master of theater and rhyme lived and died.
Alas, I will probably never be able to go back there, financially or otherwise, but at least I had the pleasure once of seeing with my own eyes, a very precious part of an unforgettable artists' life.
Thank you so much for listening.
